SPRING! For Real-

As I write this it’s 80 degrees out, the sun is shining in a perfectly blue sky, and there are flowers and green everywhere. It’s downright bucolic. I’m working at my computer in a tank top and bare feet and I’M NOT COLD. WOW!!!

It may not last here in Seattle; we are used to having June gloom and temps in the mid-50’s all the way until fourth of July.

But for now, it feels pretty much like paradise.

Not surprisingly, I’ve seen quite the uptick in new clients and client inquiries lately! Folks are ready to FEEL BETTER, get moving, get their energy back.

I love this time of year, with the longer days and milder temps. I finally feel like going outside again, instead of making myself go outside; I’m ready to go for a run, get out in the garden, take a swim, to sign up for a triathlon.

I feel re-inspired to re-calibrate; to see if I can get to my next level, feeling great.

Part of this is turning my attention back to my own nutrition and cleaning up the leaks and gaps that can happen when you’ve been at this for a while, amidst a busy life. No more 80/20 for a bit, time to commit to food for health as we move towards summer!

For me that means no more little bites of sugar, the odd piece of pizza, or just a little TOO much dark chocolate (even if it’s 90%). No more playing mediocre when I know I can do so much better for myself. Time to take things to the next level and see how far I can go.

It means making the decision each moment to choose something that puts my goals at a higher priority than that small reward in the moment.

And this is a great time of year for that; the energy is picking up, the sun is back, the rain is winding down; I feel tuned in to my body, and it’s clearer than ever that I feel awful when I make poor food choices and I don’t like feeling that way! I deserve better, and so do you, and so do all of us.

Not that it’s easy in our modern SAD environment (SAD: standard American diet) with a completely bizarre food ecosystem surrounding us in every moment. Our bodies have existed in this form for tens of thousands of years prior to Starbucks on every corner, fries with every burger, pizza at every kid event, a beer with every pizza.

And when we are stressed, sleep deprived, too busy for exercise, those poor choices seem so comforting.

One thing I know for sure is that goals like committing to better health for ourselves happen with far more ease in community, when we can help each other. That can be just two or it can be two hundred. In my work, that can be just me and a client in one-on-one work, or it can be my soon to launch keto online class, or it can be our Facebook community where we can have conversations, share triumphs and frustrations, find answers to questions, and learn about other amazing resources out there in the world.

To that end, I’d like to invite you to join my NOURISH STRENGTH KETO Facebook group, if you haven’t already. You can find that Facebook group here. I’d also like to invite you to follow me on Instagram where I’ll share lots of bright images of my keto lifestyle and tools to up your keto and wellness game. (@ketoadaptforhealth on Instagram)

I’ve been hard at work at the next version of our keto class, and Dr. Ian and I are taking it online: we’ll be launching our 8 week online keto group class sometime later this summer. It will have all the great features of the in-person class, with the convenience of being able to participate from anywhere, either across town or across the globe.

Our goal is to be as concise and approachable as possible; we read the books so you don’t have to!! And I’ll bring a special twist of extra attention to those of you who are real world athletes, juggling age group tri’s, Crossfit, half marathons, or more, all while living the full life of parenting, career-ing, creating.

My vision is a world where all who wish to can stay vital, healthy and energized through mid-life and beyond, so you can be who you are meant to be on this planet. We need you!

In the coming weeks, I’ll post more details about the class, as well as more on:

  • what is keto and why we want to do it
  • the advantages of the keto lifestyle
  • intermittent fasting
  • keto and athletic pursuits
  • wellness: a holistic approach; sunshine, mediation, sleep, and stress
  • prepping for success with keto
